Guide to Funding Your Tavelo Purchase with a Cycle to Work Voucher

If you’re looking to purchase a new Tavelo bicycle, frameset or wheels while saving money and spreading the cost, the Cycle to Work scheme is a fantastic option. This guide will walk you through the process of using a Cycle to Work voucher to fund your bike purchase.

Please note that it is not possible to apply promotional discounts to purchases using cycle to work vouchers.

What is the Cycle to Work Scheme?

The Cycle to Work scheme is a government-backed initiative aimed at promoting healthier commutes and reducing environmental impact. It allows employees to obtain bicycles and cycling accessories through salary sacrifice, meaning you pay for the items gradually from your gross salary before tax.

This results in significant savings—often up to 42%—depending on your tax bracket.

How Does the Voucher System Work?

1. Check Employer Participation

Ensure your employer is enrolled in the Cycle to Work scheme. We accept vouchers from:

Cyclescheme

Green Commute Initiative

 Bike2Work

 Vivup

 Cycle Solutions

 Cycle2Work (Halfords)

2. Decide Your Budget

Many schemes now have no upper spending limit. Choose a voucher amount that suits your needs and your employer’s scheme terms.

3. Select Your Items and Get in Touch

Browse our products and select from the following.

 Framesets

 Bars

 Wheelsets

Get in touch with us to ensure availability in your required size and colour.

4. Apply for Your Voucher

Submit your application through your chosen scheme provider. Your employer will approve your request, and a voucher will be issued for the agreed amount.

5. Redeem Your Voucher

Get in touch with us prior to adding items to your online cart. We will ensure your voucher is accepted as payment at the checkout process. If the value of your goods exceeds the value of your voucher you can pay the balance using your debit/crdeit card.

6. Salary Sacrifice Begins

The cost of the voucher is deducted from your gross salary in monthly installments, typically over 12-18 months.

Benefits of the Cycle to Work Scheme

Tax Savings: Pay less in income tax and National Insurance.

Spread the Cost: Avoid upfront expenses by paying in manageable installments.

Health and Environment: Improve your fitness while reducing your carbon footprint.

FAQs

Q: How does this save money?

The cost of your bike is paid for from your gross salary, meaning you pay less National Insurance and Income tax for each month you're paying for your bike. Exact savings depend on your salary. (See the savings calculator above.)

Q: What vouchers do you accept?

We currently accept vouchers from The Green Commute Initiative, Cycle Solutions, Vivup, BikeToWork, CycleScheme and the Halfords Cycle to Work scheme. We regularly review other schemes. Please get in touch if your voucher provider is not listed and we'll be happy to look into it.

Q: How long will it take?

Once you've chosen what you want we'll endeavour to provide you with a written quote within 1 business day. Typically, employers provide you with a voucher within 5 days. Once we have your code we will place your order immediately. We will have informed you whether your items are here in UK stock for 1 business day delivery, or whether they are a special order, which takes 10-20 days depending on the time of year.

Q: Can I just buy a frameset, or wheels?

Absolutely! You can use your voucher to purchase a frameset to build yourself, or a new set of wheels to upgrade your current bike, or have us quote for a complete new build using the components of your choice.

Q: What if my items cost more than my maximum voucher value?

If the value of your voucher doesn't fully cover the cost of your bike, some providers allow you to make a top-up payment to us using your credit or debit card like a normal purchase. Please check with your own provider and call us for advice.

Q: Do I have to pay a deposit?

None of the schemes require you to pay anything up-front to us.

Q: Can I also buy accessories from you, such as a helmet or lock?

Yes! These aren't listed on our website but we'll be happy to recommend and supply whatever you need.

Q: Do you accept discount codes?

Discount codes are not accepted on goods purchased through a Cycle to Work scheme.

Q: Can I use the scheme if I’m self-employed?

Unfortunately, the scheme is only available to PAYE employees, as it relies on salary sacrifice.

Q: Do I own the bike immediately?

Technically, the bike is leased to you until the end of the agreement. You can usually purchase it at a nominal fee afterward.

Q: What if I leave my job during the agreement?

You may need to settle the remaining balance before leaving your employer.

By using a Cycle to Work voucher, you can make cycling affordable, convenient, and rewarding. It’s not just a purchase; it’s an investment in your health and the environment!
